That's a knockout. Very beautiful landscape.

Thanks! We finally got rain yesterday, after a long hiatus in manifestations of our Monsoon season. I had to get off the freeway anyway, so I drove until I had the bright green field -- an infrequent sight in the Tucson area -- to use as a foreground with which to set off the jagged mountains in the distance.

All those elements, together with the pungent light, make it a spectacular picture.

I had this weird sense that it was like a bit of Vietnam overlaid on top of the Arizona desert.

Yes, I had a fleeting sense of something exotic and 'vaguely remembered' about the image. I couldn't have said it was Viet Nam, not having experienced it, but somewhere amazing and beautifully otherworldly.

I've never been to Viet Nam, but I've seen so many pictures of the karst topography in China and Southeast Asia that I feel like it's a familiar landscape.

That's what caught my eye, along with the mist-shrouded mountains in the distance. Green of that sort is really rare here. The sun and dryness tend to bleach it out of pictures, too, so the trick is to try to capture it right after a rain, when the clouds and light are in dialogue.

whereabouts is this lovely greenness? i'm trying to place the mountain range, and not quite getting it.

That's the Silver Bell range in the distance, with Ragged Top, just a little to the east, being the many-spiked formation that caught my eye. I'd say that view is almost due west from Pinal Air Park, if you remember that exit on I-10 as you approach Tucson.
