Die Welt ist alles, was der Unfall ist
If you'd asked me whether fiery orange and hot pink went well together before moving to Tucson, well, I would have thought you were crazy. But this color scheme is everywhere here and now I love it.

When I first moved to the desert here in Arizona, I found the combination of that intense orange and hot pink hard to take at the same time. But now I've come to appreciate it as one of the climate's stronger compensations for the heat and dryness of the weather much of the year.

(Nice to have you aboard, BTW!)

My pleasure.

It's a joy to see that convergence every morning, when the light coming over the morning makes the orange and pink glow.

I clipped all my Birds of Paradise (Mexican) down to the nubs and they are only now barely recovering.

Why? I mean, pruning them makes them flower better, I suppose. But that sounds extreme.

I have this guy down the street who lives in a different world, like, the world of children. So, I will say something like, "I don't know what to do with these plants." And he will just assert, "Oh you gotta clip them, all the way down. Yeah, they'll do great, but you gotta cut 'em down," and he doesn't know what in the fuck he's talking about. But he thinks he's right because he thought it. And I am one of those people who thinks he's wrong because he thought it.

So, after I cut em all down he'll come back... maybe a day later, and say, "Why'd you cut all your plants down?" and I will repeat back what I said, and he will directly contradict...

Because I am a fucking idiot, that's why.

::laughing::

Someone told us that we had to trim them all the way down to the ground the first year we had them or they wouldn't bloom at all. We were too preoccupied with a three-year-old to take their advice. And they bloomed beautifully, of course. There are lots of people here who offer sage wisdom that's actually full of shit.

This guy grew up in AZ and thinks that you can take a cutting from any plant, throw it on the ground and it will grow into a new plant (as with cactus). I don't know why I listen to him. He's just so sure about everything. I wish I could live with such ignorant confidence. It makes me angry that that kind of stupidity can get one all the way to the White House.

Exactly. I'm really having a hard time with the current crop of Arizona "leaders." I used to be very wary of analogies to fascism, but something has snapped inside me.

Have you seen the new Harper's? They bash the state, and hold it up as an example of an ideal version of "Tea Party" governance.

It is getting increasingly embarrassing to be "resident" here.

Thanks. It's a delight to have that convergence in our front yard, I can assure you!

Last night I dreamt that R and I were behind your car at a light. You had a license plate that read CBERTSCH.

Neat. I'd like that plate. But I don't want to let my vanity run wild until I live in a state that I can respect.

You could always register the car in another state. Every time you had to get a smog check, you'd have an excuse to take a road trip to a state you respect.

But Vermont is so far away!
