Happy Mother's Day!

Remember my Promise Keeper neighbor, the one who kindly helps out everyone in the neighborhood, brings the people on his street an annual Christmas present, and has a habit of forwarding incendiary right-wing propaganda to his entire address book? Well, he just sent out a Mother's Day message:
In his book Lost in Wonder, Love, and Praise: Prayers for Christian Worship
(Abingedon, 2001) John Killinger includes these words about mothers:
I believe in the love of all mothers, and its importance in the lives of the
children they bear.

It is stronger than steel, softer than down and more resilient than a green
sapling on the hillside.

It closes wounds, melts disappointments and enables the weakest chjild to
stand tall and straight in the fields of adversity…..

And I believe that one fo the most beautiful sights in the world is a mother
who lets this great love flow through her to her child, blessing the world with the tenderness of her touch and the tears of her joy.
Mothers who want to express God’s kind of love to their children must begin
by receiving and experiencing HIS love themselves ~ because God is love
(1 John 4:16) In every area of life, we can give nothing away that we have not first \received. If you have received God’s love in salvation through Christ , recommit yourself daily to manifesting HIS love to your children.

Being a channel of God’s love means first receiving then giving with not obstacles in between.

Turning Point

All I am my mother made me.

-- John Qunicy Adams
All I can say is, "Amen to that." Backwards, naturally, while watching the DVD of Brokeback Mountain.
