It's Going To Be a Long Season

Remember how I wrote a little while back that the Cal Bears' chances of making the NCAA men's tournament were slim, but I still had a modicum of hope? Well, that has all changed. The loss of DeVon Hardin, the team's only experienced post player and sole interior presence on defense, for the remainder of the season has resulted in the sort of worst-case scenario that coaches and fans dread. And today's dreadful second-half performance against DePaul showed how that scenario is likely to play out. I'm starting to think that it might be a good thing that I don't have tickets to next week's contest against the Wildcats. I'm not sure I have the fortitude to withstand a forty-point flattening right now, especially with a sea of smug middle-aged Republicans in hideous red sweater vests saturating my field of vision. Yes, I'm depressed. About sports, anyway. And, no, this is not one of those entries that allegorizes its own renunciation of allegory. At least not in a conscious way. I swear.
