Our day of travel was remarkably easy. Although we were a little late getting to the airport in Tucson and a little late for our connection in Houston as well, that meant that the waiting-around-in-public-spaces tedium was kept to a minimum. And we actually landed early in La Guardia. By the time 5pm rolled around, we were already in our hotel room, getting ready for a night on the town. Bean was a little tired to be dealing with rush-hour subway transfers, but her spirits were restored upon our disembarking in Little Italy, which is a lot like North Beach in San Francisco in that more than half of the people who work there are Chinese. Skylar was able to get a beautiful silk dress with the money she'd saved without our needing to cross Canal Street. Finding something decent to eat threatened to pose a challenge, but then I spotted a little Moroccan place that, in addition to having soft cushions and pillows for the tired clan to sprawl across, had excellent food, including broiled salmon that was the equal of the sort served at Zona 78. All in all, a super start to our short but intense trip.
