Foot Balls - De File
Does Collecting Make You Feel Dirty?
Foot Balls
There was a time, of course, when football was a tad more sauvage than it is today:

I do miss that walk up from BART. Even when Strawberry Creek was running the color of antifreeze, the stroll was aesthetically appealing: the world's largest sort of deciduous and coniferous trees, sharing the same sylvan acreage; the curve of thin-leafed oak branches; LSB's Depression-style Egyptophilia; and, last but not least, this masterpiece of trebled meaning. If only they had beards, the perfection of it all would be too much to Bear.

Nice photo, Charlie

I miss that walk, too.

Thought you might like to see this if you haven't already: http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/gaybears/tilden/

You were a TA in a class I was in @ Cal, c. 1992, on the Epic. Virgil and all that. Great class.

Re: Nice photo, Charlie

Thanks for the link and also for writing. My favorite era was when there was that Polish poster shop on Center Street, the Pizza place further up, and then the Russian restaurant on the corner.

AND . . . Don't forget the pandowdy at the Neutron Bakery! How could you possibly fail to acknowledge the horror and intrigue of that concoction!?!?

I mean, what about the squirrels with the BUBONIC PLAGUE (and rabbies)?! The freakin place was infested with them, remember? The cute little disease ridden lethal mother fuckers.

Giant Sand?

Giant Sand????? Oh god, one of the worst years of my life was a 2 hour set by Giant Sand, as we waited for Freakwater to get their turn. Jeeeeeeeeeze, they so totally suck, though their fans might have been worse, completely annoying worshipful sycophants, as
bad as Dead Heads.

Re: Giant Sand?

Hmmmmm. So am I supposed to defer to your taste here? Because you're cooler, wiser etc.? I like Giant Sand. But they are an acquired taste. What I don't have any use for are attempts to impose one's taste on others through the, "The stuff you like sucks!," approach. What good is that to anyone? Would it help your for me to say that I think Freakwater sucks? I don't think so.

BTW, why are you responding to this picture in this way, as opposed to the entry that mentions Giant Sand?
