Somewhere
Somewhere, perhaps in your midst, Thomas Pynchon is celebrating his birthday today. I hope it's the North Coast sort.

Hmmm. Maybe I should try to get Thomas Pynchon for a celebrity reader at this week's Marathon Reading. I mean, I could pick up some dude off the street and no one would know the difference...

Gravity's Rainbow WARRIOR

When I worked at a used bookstore in Pittsburgh, I was convinced Pynchon was one of our shoppers. "The Magnifying Glass Man," as he was called, would browse texts with the aid of an enormous magnifying glass, and expel gas whenever another shopper came near him.
Once he left his notebook; we read it, of course. There was a ten-page Beckett-ish thing about his telephone and answering machine.

Glad to see you! You can now reply at will. I'm available for much of the day tomorrow.
