Does Collecting Make You Feel Dirty?
Worth the Read
This long feature in The New York Times on what went wrong after Hurricane Katrina does a good job of distilling details into a more sweeping story of mistakes that were made, particularly at the Federal level.

agree, another plug

Hey Charlie, Yeah I also found that article illuminating.

I got to put in a plug for Democracy Now. I don't often get to listen to it but I caught a lot of it yesterday when I was in my car on errands. Amy G's on the street interviews are good, although sometimes annoying to me - but I especially appreciated other somewhat lengthy musings by various folks from the city. Lots of them talking about the looting, about how both blacks and whites looted side by side, in tandem and apparent harmony. But also how blacks are immediately criminalized while whites are not. One man said in the early hours and days whites unaffiliated with any law enforcement agencies were seen roving the city toting big guns with no apparent scrutiny, apparently enjoying the appearance of being righteous law-keepers, while a black man with a knife was in big trouble.
