I'm Having a Sticky Pun For Breakfast

Skylar and I were discussing the "Come on feel the Illinoise" T-shirt I'm wearing. She read "Illinois," realized that there was an "e" on the end, then asked why. I started to explain. "But it should be 'Come on hear the Illinoise,' dad." I added that the song Sufjan Stevens is making reference to is from the 1970s -- or 1980s too, I suppose -- and meant to be played so loud that you feel it and hear it. Meanwhile, she was lowering her fork towards one of the pieces of her breakfast fruit. Preoccupied with her thoughts, though, she overshot her target. As she brought the empty fork to her lips I thought of the definition she had provided in her class last week. "'Phantom' means "ghost" or "fake." I couldn't resist. "You missed, Skylar. That was a phantalope."
