Since it is highly unlikely that the real brackets will include the Bears -- yes, my Bears -- I thought I'd better celebrate their squeaking in to Joe Lunardi's latest iteration of "bracketology." I would ever so gladly take an 11 seed, even if it means bringing back memories of the hideous game Shareef Abdur Rahim & Co. played against Iowa State in the final year of the retroactively benighted Todd Bozeman years. Could we beat Michigan? Sure. But we'd probably have to get scoring out of Richard Midgely and Omar Wilkes in addition to Leon Powe and Ayinde Ubaka, so the odds wouldn't be good. The Big-10 is strong this year.

Mode: jinxing myself and my team?

I don't know about four teams from the Pac-10 making it into the tournament this year...I've been thinking that the Cats need to win the conference outright or at least make it to the finals of the conference tournament to get into the dance (same could probably be said of your Bears). I just don't see three at-large bids going to our conference, which hasn't looked strong against either the Big East or the ACC. And then there's that whole East coast bias thing to contend with.

Oh, I think three bids won't be a problem. The RPI for the Cats stands at around 16 right now. Unless they continue to slide, they're in. Same for Washington. UCLA already seems like a lock to me. The real question is whether a fourth team can sneak in. On that score, I'm not hopeful unless the fourth team finishes above one of those three.
