Where I'd Rather Be Right Now
I pulled this flyer off a telephone pole across from Malcom X School on Sunday, along with one for a Bob Mould solo show on Saturday at Slim's.

I'm so jealous I can barely type. But I suppose I should content myself with the memory of Sheff and company writing lines from their favorite Modernist poets on a whiteboard in a certain 3rd Avenue basement, their spirits soaring on suspiciously acquired Muscat.

Cafe du Nord is about as big as a basement.

I know! That's why I was overcome with nostalgia. Of course, the band wasn't playing in the basement when I saw them in Tucson. I was at the "after party." Fun.

You should check Okkervil River out, BTW. Superb lyrics and a "heroin"-paced countryish rock sound that really serves them well.

I had three songs from the latest album in my Musicmatch library, so I listened. I liked the sound. I confess I wasn't paying attention to the lyrics. Songs were "Black," "For Real" and "The Latest Toughs."

dood, he was in town at Plush like, last week, dood!

And then Crawling with Kings was in town...

You gotta stick to my program. I know when all the good bands were in town.

I know. But I was in the Bay Area. See? Bob Mould isn't coming through Arizona, unfortunately. I did see him in L.A. in October, though.

Now I am confused... are you saying that you are Bob Mould, that you are Will Sheff or are you saying that I am not "hip."

Or are you saying that "hip" isn't hip anymore?

::laughing::

I suppose I deployed to much compression in referring back to my original entry. What I meant was A) that I missed Sheff here, being there, and there, being here; B) that I am going to miss Mould there, because I'll be here, and here, because he's only going there; and C) that I can console myself with the memory, not only of hanging with Sheff after a show here a few years back at a "there" of which I have fond memories, but also of seeing Mould in October, at another "there" of which I have fond memories.

Ich Bin Hier

Regarding too little overkkil, I'll see you in Portland on Valentine's Day (we can have espressi and expatiation at Powell's beforehand). As for Mould, I missed him in October "here," not "there," but do not much like Slim's. Hmm . . . .

I happened to be in North Carolina, of all the random places I've visited in my life, when Will was playing in Tucson. But a San Francisco visit in October did correspond with their tour and I caught all of Okkervil River at the same Cafe du Nord.
And as far as Thanksgiving goes, that was an incredible evening.

Incredible. Yes. I'd love to do lunch next week. Monday and Wednesday are best for me. Glad the insanity is abating for you.
