Well, another men's college basketball season is over. I still get to root for the Maryland women against Duke tomorrow -- "Go Terps!" -- but am already suffering from a withdrawal that will be all the stronger this year because of how much major league baseball is depressing me. Before I sink into moody torpor, though, let me pause -- dare I say it? -- to commend Florida on a tremendous tournament run and an even more tremendous finale. Wow. I'd picked Florida to win, though I was rooting Pac-10 all the way, but never saw a rout like that coming. It's almost like Billy Donovan picked a game plan for the George Mason game with the sole intent of leading Ben Howland astray. That was some serious domination of the lane. I imagine that John Wooden was impressed, despite watching the game from a hospital bed and rooting for his former charges. Joakim Noah may be too skinny for the NBA right now, but he is a superstar in the making. His shot blocking is the best sort, eschewing style points for his team's possession of the ball. And he can dribble pretty well too. As chagrined as I was with the outcome, I have to admit to having more than a few "I'm glad I got to see that" moments watching the Gators on offense. I still hate the SEC on principle, mind you, but greatness, however temporary, deserves props. Did I say, "Wow," yet?

Why is MLB depressing you so?

The Giants, naturally. Not only does this look like a mediocre year in the making, but the Barry-bashing is driving me nuts. Whatever he did, it's out of hand. I find it hard to believe that not a single pitcher, playing a position where recovery time is always an issue, has indulged in the brews that he and other sluggers are said to have deployed. Seriously. And it's not like muscles help you hit the ball. Witness Canseco on the downward slope.

I'm not a Barry fan, but as an advocate of decency, I'll agree that this shit he has to put up with is ridiculous. A syringe on the field? Unbelievable.

How about getting that kid on the court?

Your daughter is so good at everything she puts her mind to, it wouldn't surprise to see her in the NBA some day!

Re: How about getting that kid on the court?

That's the key, though: what she puts her mind to. I'm trying to be encouraging. But her love of art takes precedence over everything else right now.

I would still rather have Jordan Farmar's babies than Joakim Noah's, though.

You mean you want them to look human? :-)

Seriously, while Farmar + yourbestfiend might result in some attractive children, my money is on your prospective union with either of the Camerounians producing the best offspring.

how can the son of a hot French tennis player and a Swedish woman come out looking so...poorly moustached?

But aw shit, I'd totally procreate with Mbah a Moute too, you know it!!!!

Your children would show astonishing court awarness despite their innocence and a remarkable capacity to consume rye crackers, smoked fish, and vodka. And they'd be cute, too!

I caught the last minute and overtime at LAX. That was an exciting game. Good for the Terps but also women's basketball. Can you believe the woman defending Tolliver when she hit that three was 6'7"?!

I know. Amazing. At least you racked up one championship this year. Not bad. And the ACC rules the women's game at present.

As a matter of fact, the Terps are having an awesome year in non-money sports. They also won the men's soccer national championship as well as the field hockey. Plus both of the lacrosse teams are championship-caliber, a big deal in the state of Maryland if nowhere else.
