Tonight we determined each family member's rooting preferences in the next round of the World Cup. I'm pulling for Germany, then the Netherlands or England. Kim favors Italy, then Ghana, then Brazil or Argentina. And Skylar wants Italy, Germany, or England to win, because the majority of her ancestors came from those three nations. I'd still bet on Brazil to win, though Argentina has looked better overall. Of the remaining European teams, Spain and Germany have looked the strongest so far. Host countries tend to do well, anyway, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Germany make the final. In the end, though, I'm still going to predict a South American champion.

I think Germany can go far, especially being the host nation. But I want them to make an early exit so the U.S. can hire Klinsmann as their coach. He loves L.A.

Well, Argentina is next, so you are likely to get your wish. If Germany wins that one, there's a really good chance they'll go to the final.

Argentina looked vulnerable today. Germany could win against the pirates.

But a lot less vulnerable after Tevez and Messi entered the game. I'm not sure the German defense is strong enough to contain them, should they play before it's too late to matter.

If hired, his first order of business should be to demand that all 23 players on the U.S. squad begin playing in Europe. It's the only way we'll get out of group play in four years.

Well, that might be extreme. But Landon's return was a big mistake. Our players would even benefit from playing in Mexico. We also need to work on finishing. Even during this year's poor performance, we generated good opportunities. It's finishing that makes the difference, though. That's why even a fat Ronaldo is so dangerous. He just knows how to score.
