Hell on Earth
I know many people in North America are suffering from the heat. But be glad you don't live in Phoenix, not only for the high percentage of corrupt developers and the realtors who live off them parasitically, but because it's hideously hot a good portion of the time:

Today was cooler, though. Only 116 degrees Fahrenheit. At least I can take solace in knowing that, however bad it is in Tucson, it's much worse in Maricopa County.

118F.?

Heat? What heat? I'm in my study, the air conditioning and music are pumping away, and that's that. The local outdoors is for suckers who want to play tag with skin cancer. Maricopa County in summer is an indoors sport.

And technology is an illusion that overwhelms unsuspecting senses...

Re: 118F.?

Far worse because you had no A/C? Or just far worse? I'm guessing the latter.

See you on the 28th.

50C. A valley filled with white sand like talc powder. Blinding sun. Nearly the lowest point on earth. Breathing through a handkerchief tied over the face. Putting up tents in the desert, an ancient Jewish occupation. Awful...

Re: 118F.?

I confess I really do miss A/C sometimes. Because when it gets hot here without it...well, it's not unlivable but it's not good--mathmagic and I were just going on about our respective shenanigans for trying to keep cool enough to sleep last night. Wet towels etc. I'll spare you :)

I think I might try to buy us another fan for the front room today, though. Because I can't bear to sacrifice the one in my bedroom during the daytime hours if I want to survive it at night.

Re: 118F.?

But it's funny. Because missing A/C is sort of like saying I miss 118F. And I'm not sure that's true. I do miss the dryness sometimes. And humidity that can actually break with a monsoon.

Heat

I've got a mindsay online blogger friend that took some pics (http://causticveracity.mindsay.com/?entry=1145) in the Phoenix heat a while back. The heat seems to make the visuals seem baked. (I'm not sure if his blog is available to nonmembers or not.
