The Latest Danger: Cell Phone Image Spam
In the last day I've received numerous spam messages from a cell phone address that consist solely of a "tropical resort" image. I imagine that there's a virus embedded in the JPEG, which doesn't worry me much as a Mac user, but should worry any Windows users out there who are getting the same spam messages. Here's what a typical message looks like in a virus-free screenshot:

Remind me not to visit that beach. It's far too grainy and washed out for my scopophilia-centered tastes.

I'm pretty sure you can embed a virus in a JPEG. There's lots of data in one and not all of it gets translated into pixels.

I know this is a leap, but that beach reminds of me 1970s Italian zombie/cannibal movies. Slightly skanky and downmarket, washed out. Bring on the crossover porno actors.

Absolutely! It's very 70s. Maybe it's not a virus-carrying attachment, but I can't figure out what else it would be doing. So odd.

That beach and the fact that's it's being projected to you from a cell phone and through your computer just creeps me out. It's like a Message From Hell. Like that awful japanese cell phone horror movie we watched. I like it though. I mean, because it's so creepy. You can keep it though. I like seeing it here, but I don't want one of my own.

Yeah, it's very Japanese horror film, isn't it? I like the idea that it's from Hell.
