Does Collecting Make You Feel Dirty?
Worth Mentioning
With all the negativity surrounding baseball these days, especially if one if a San Francisco Giants fan, I'm struggling to maintain my investment. One strategy is to pay attention to things I've neglected. Today's object of inquiry is Manny Ramirez, who has been eclipsed in the media by David Ortiz's rise to fame. I imagine that someone will claim that Ramirez wasn't really born in 1972. But still, the fact that he might be only 34 with 469 home runs, a lifetime on-base percentage of .411 and a lifetime slugging percentage of .601 is startlingly impressive. He's going to the Hall of Fame, folks.

You bet your ass he is!!! And thank you for one of the only positive Sox-related facts I've heard recently.

I was thinking of you. It has been a bleak, bleak week for Red Sox fans. My father is happy, though. I can give him a pass on being a Yankee fan, since he started rooting for them before World War II.

I often wonder if former Pirate second basemen Jose "Chico" Lind will also one day be immortalized at Cooperstown. Perhaps, as memorabilia, they will include the switchblade he stashed in his sock during all games. Perhaps, too, they will include photographs of his frantic, naked drive through Downtown Pittsburgh hopped-up on cocaine.
A boy can dream of better days, can't he?

He'll be in the artificially enhanced wing!

Nice to hear from you. I've been remiss in arranging a meet-up. Give me a few more weeks and I should be able to hang out.

re Manny: not to mention he gave Hack Wilson's RBI record a run a couple times. 190, whoa.
re baseball: I don't even watch it anymore. Maybe I would if they got Chipper Jones and JD Drew I'd be less than yawning. There should be *more* 'roids, if you ask me. We need human chemistry experiment-mutants.
