Does Collecting Make You Feel Dirty?
Lack and Supplement
As I'm sitting in the front room working on my laptop, bits and pieces of the conversation in the other room register in my consciousness. Skylar was just talking about how "Buster," the dog her grandmother bought her that barks and moves, seems to be running out of batteries. And then, without any transition, she said this:
Isn't it cool that when Wittgenstein's brother lost his arm they created left-hand music for him?
I love the reference to my favorite philosopher, of course. Even more than that, though, I love tracking the stream of her consciousness. She may not know the word "prosthetic" yet, but she clearly understands how to think about prosthesis in a more sophisticated way than most of the people I know.

Here Is a Hand

If, e.g., someone [e.g., Moore] says "I don't know if there's a hand here," he might be told "Look closer!" - This possibility of satisfying oneself is part of the language-game. Is one of its essential features.

I love that book. The passage about the railway cars on the siding is one of my all-time favorites.
