Does Collecting Make You Feel Dirty?
Art Rocks
In addition to getting canvases and a decent set of brushes for Christmas -- she commences to learn oil painting tomorrow -- Skylar also got some mechanical pencils with fine leads. Naturally, being the sort of girl she is -- see our holiday letter, the link to which I posted in one of my entries from yesterday -- she had to make something tonight with them, in anticipation of tomorrow's lesson:

I asked her about the "China" displayed on two of the writing implements. "That's because my pencils were made in China, dad." Indeed. I heart art and my art-hearting girl who pays attention to detail. I know you all must get tired of me saying this, but she sure is a wonderful being.

This comment is more comforting coming from you than from some random person! I'll be online a lot the next few days. We can also have phone conversations. Remember: you're awesome.

I should have used an emoticon! I'm just trying out my new Philly attitude.

You'll like this: I overheard a grad student from our program say to someone last night, "Reality is what you make it."
I wanted to punch them in the face to make them aware of the limits of their reality.

You know who else made his own reality: Judge Schreber. And he turned out all right, didn't he?

I'm totally awesome!

her attention to detail, body ratios, and the neatness in her drawings is pretty incredible for a girl her age.

Yeah, the chick in this image is a bit slim for my taste, but the liveliness of the line is really striking. She said, "Look, it's my best hand ever."

she's in 2nd grade right? it took me until middle school to be able to draw/shade like that. she's obviously a natural artist. i'm pretty jealous. out of all random talents i wish i had, drawing and painting is it.

Children are amazing in general but, when they are yours... even more so. :-)

Love the girl. She's frightfully chic and very thin. And that hair! What a do!
