Does Collecting Make You Feel Dirty?
There was a time, in the thirty minutes after Alpine, when I would have pulled over, because I couldn't see twenty feet in front of me, except that I knew that everyone else was having the same problem, many worse than me, and the only thing for it was to press on ahead of the pace. I can still feel the residue of tension in my neck, the product of both realism and too many viewings of Audrey Rose. Still, there was room for me to remember Kim Diehl on stage at the Warfield on 10/28/89, singing "Into the White" as the strobes blinked and I gripped my last Rolling Rock, teeth digging into my my lower lip. Focus is itself a form of distraction. And the now is increasingly then.

Red rear fog lamp. Permitted but not mandatory in the USA. Easy to implement on most reasonably recent VW models.

Good to know. Our car actually came with a fog light package, so I'm wondering whether that applies to the rear as well. I had the fog lights on. Part of the problem, of course, is that, like the drivers who travel that stretch of the Autobahn near Ingolstadt at high speeds, the people who drive that portion of the road regularly make too few allowances for climatic conditions. Someone passed me going 85 while talking on a cell phone.

Nope, no rear fog lamp functionality by on North American-market VWs as delivered. If you want it to work, you have to swap in the European/rest-of-world headlamp switch and choose one of several options for making the actual light work at the rear of the car. More info on request.
