My morning missive from Google included a link to an entry compiling funny quotes, including several of my own:
Quotes from Professor Charlie Bertsch

"It's like the Macy's parade, only with Hitler."

"That's part of college. Making new friends who are just as pretentious and arrogant as you are. Otherwise you stay behind and work at Wal-Mart, keeping it real."

"When I'm speaking about Britney Spears, I'm really teaching you about life."
The best part is that they are 100% accurate, which is a rarity, as anyone who has been quoted in the newspaper can tell you. The Hitler quip, in case you were wondering, refers to a scene in Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of Will, during which the dark-haired dictator has numerous arm-rising events as he is driven through Nürnberg.

I don't know if you remember this one (I can't remember word for word, just that I remember laughing a lot to myself), but it was a response you gave to a student when I was briefly in your lit and film class a few years ago:

Student: "Is this [film director] important? Like, would he appear on a test?"
You: "It's like if Phil Collins died. That's how important he is."

Me (thinking to myself about you): "Is this guy for real? He's so sarcastic!"

Now that I don't remember. But that whole class was such a rough experience that I've repressed most of what happened.

Fair enough. I just remember thinking you were funny (and you still are) back in the day. And you're right - the overall aura of the class was akin to pulling teeth.

I still haven't recovered, to be honest. That was my first experience being hated by a large number of people in that context.

Wonderful, all.

I remember tripping out when you were in my class observing because I feared that I would say something a little too off and have it recorded for posterity. But it was nice to have that log nonetheless.

What about, "I will now use Winnie the Pooh characters to illustrate the difference between synecdoche and metonymy." That one was one of my favorites.

hahah i remember that! in fact its the only way i know the difference between synechdoche and metonymy.

I also love that in the original post's quotes you can hear the pauses. "working at walmart...(slightly underbreath) keeping it real..."

Nice to see you posting again. (And apologies for this belated reply.)

Sorry for the delayed reply. . .

I'm glad you remembered that. It's how I keep things straight!
