I was driving by Safeco yesterday and thought of you. At least the M's won, for once!

small moments

In my head, I can tell myself that moments of such amazing clarity are few and far-between; however, my heart refuses to listen and tells me that Seattle is where I should be.

It's probably a good thing that my heart doesn't have access to my bank account.

Thanks for posting such a wonderful picture. I think my day has been made!

Re: small moments

Having the mountain be out in spring is special enough. But cherry blossoms: wow!

It's a beautiful place, but so, so expensive.

Re: small moments

Compared to New York, New York City (or California for that matter),
Seattle is an upscale dollar store. :)

So was Paul Allen was the conference? :)

Re: small moments

Oh, you'd be surprised. Property values are rising to meet the falling Bay Area ones. Not NYC, obviously. But very high nonetheless.

No Paul, alas. The museum is funded through a grant that he and his wife gave the University of Washington. Rhapsody underwrote the conference this year. It's a great event, even if the EMP itself is not to everyone's liking as a space of history or learning.

Re: small moments

I'm moving to Seattle and renting, so, it seems way cheaper to me. :)
But, yes, I did hear about the rising property values
because of the influx of people, companies and the fact that there is no more space
to build in Seattle. Did you find the cost of living -- food and such -- is more exspensive?

Re: small moments

It's pretty high. Gas is expensive, so that makes other things pricey. Better than San Francisco, but not by much.

Re: small moments

Hey, sorry for all the questions.
How much is gas? It's over $3.00 where I live.

Re: small moments

The cherry blossoms remind me of spring in D.C. It's nice to know you can find them on both coasts.

Re: small moments

Still, the architecture behind the blossoms in your photograph contrasts so starkly the structural design of D.C. Growing up in NOVA, I wouldn't have imagined cherry blossoms foregrounding skyscrapers and snow-capped mountains. Really, it's a great shot.

Re: small moments

Thanks. Seattle has the most downtown-ish downtown of all the cities I've visited west of the Rockies. L.A. is too dispersed. And San Francisco feels ill-proportioned. I like skyscrapers.

Re: small moments

They have a lot in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park too, but they bloom a lot sooner. I guess it gets cold enough in Seattle to retard their emergence.

Have you ever seen Sondheim's Pacific Overtures?

No. Why?

WWWWWWOW.
I keep meaning to get back up there. It should now that I don't have to deal with my friends in the awful marriage when I visit.

It's an awesome place to visit, certainly.

In other news, let's get together soon!
