How To Please Me
I just walked in the house carrying a large box of organic red raspberries and a bunch of fresh tape flags. I think I'll mix myself a reading "cocktail" of Sebald, De Certeau and Wittgenstein. I couldn't be happier.

Okay. So I have the equivalent of about German 3 at the college level, so reading Wittgenstein in German is out. Whose translation do you recommend?

And pray tell, which de Certeau are you after this evening?

PS: had lunch in SF with J today. We said many nice things about you and I hope your ears were burning.

My ears are a little sunburned, actually, because I neglected to put on sunscreen this morning in light of the overcast weather. Too bright for that, apparently!

The Wittgenstein translations, most of them overseen by Elizabeth Anscombe and Georg von Wright, are excellent. Nothing to worry about there. Also, most of his works are available in facing-page editions. I'd start with the start of the Philosophical Investigations, myself. I start there all the time, in fact.

Oh, and The Practice of Everyday Life, which is, of course, full of Wittgenstein.
