I picked up the Kevin Drew CD this weekend. Upon first listen, it sounded like white noise and BSS b-sides, but then again, my first impressions of the last CD were the same!

I do recommend the new Shout Out Louds CD - Our Ill Wills. It has a really nice production that actually suits their poppy lo-fi Swedish sound and they seemed to have developed a bit of influence of The Cure, which is never a bad thing.

That makes total sense. The last BSS record tried hard to break down the boundary between A-side and B-side, music and noise, song and not-song. I think the musique concrète of the cereal munching over a background of ringing phones and groaning lovers provides a key to understanding what Drew is out to do.

I'll have to check out the Shout Out Louds. Anything with an influence of The Cure is alright by me. Well, almost anything. That cover of "Love Song" freaks me out a bit. But I've really been enjoying hearing the Disintegration echoes in The National's Boxer, a record that hasn't been written about as Cure-ish, as far as I know.
