Your "early work" reminds me of your daughter's writing (as seen in another blog--yet Skylar's work seems to be a combo of you and your partner).

That's the way it works, I guess. Genes will out!

A little confusion about subject and object towards the end, but it could be worse. . .

I can't believe me made that mistake! Seriously, it's good to be reminded of the fact that even advanced third-graders make that sort of error on a regular basis.

Dare I say that this is poetry?

Something about it is redolent of Williams' "This Is Just To Say"--beautiful on account of its understatement and simplicity.

Well, I didn't know any real poetry at that age. But I've loved Williams since I read him. He ranks at the top of my poetic pantheon.

That was enjoyable. I like the childish innocence and rawness of the writing. Of course, the physical object preserved for visual examination is nice. I wish I had more or my early writing but, my parents took it because I wrote pretty mean and dangerous ideas about my father... like how I wanted to kill him. It was mostly because he didn't listen to us siblings and reach out and care for us in an intimate way like he should have. He has said he would do things differently if he could go back and start over. Of course, I've long since forgiven his failings, not that I've been a model son myself. :-)

Sorry, I missed your comment eariler. The passage of time does tend to soften those feelings, though not always, as my partner's relationship with her mother attests.

I don't have a ton of stuff like that, but enough to feel some connection to that part of my past. It means a lot to me, even if the emotions that get stirred up going through that material are complicated and hard to channel.
