I'm Still Not Sure It's Real
Whatever ranking we end up with may be gone by next week, since our quarterback and leader in receptions may join three defensive starters on the sidelines with injuries. But I'm not going to complain. In fact, I'm keen to celebrate. I just wish I could stop thinking that the crucial call is going to be overturned. Maybe I've been possessed by the spirit of Bob Stoops, whose Sooners will likely be swapping places with the Bears in the polls.

I'm constantly impressed that once he catches the ball, De'Sean Jackson looks more like a running back than a receiver. I see a lot of Cal on my TV for obvious reasons and I can grudgingly accept their success now that Kyle Boller is growing on me. But today I would have rather been watching ABC's other afternoon game.

Congratulations on that one! I thought Rutgers would win easily.

Jackson has been hurt, making it hard for him to catch anything out of the ordinary. But now that he's getting healthy. . .

I mean, it freaks me out to move up in the polls. But Cal is certainly capable of beating most of the teams in the land. Oregon is good.

Jackson's route-running was superb on one of the TD catches I saw. He faked the CB out of his socks. Cal/SC could be very interesting, based on how the two teams played today. Hopefully the Trojans make it out of Autzen undefeated.

Hitman: Every time I hear the name Kyle Boller, I picture Jim Wheeler scowling at a Depot TV screen.

Arizona State looks really good on defense, so that could throw a wrinkle into things. Of course, Cal could also lose to anyone remaining on their schedule, judging by the way this season has been going.

Yes, Jackson was obviously working hard to show that he's an every-down receiver, not just a specialist. He's too small to be one in the NFL, I think, but it might help him in the draft if teams think he'd be a legitimate third-down-package regular.

Our concerns parallel. I am fretting over my Mountaineers in the same way. It's always a difficult time to be a fan when one's team flirts with next-level greatness.
I fear that South Florida will become for WVU what Maryland was during my childhood: the dream killer of a whole state.
