The Problem With Sunday
The National League pennant race has come down to the final game of the season. But unless you're in the local television market of one of the contenders or subscribe to one of those special packages, you're not going to see the games because it's Sunday, the day when professional football rules the airwaves. While not as annoying as having New Year's Day sports pre-empted by the Mummer's Parade, that scourge of my youthful viewing, it's still pretty frustrating. Somehow "watching" on the computer doesn't cut it. Oh, and I'm pulling for the Phillies, despite the fact that I haven't forgiven them for leaving the unfriendly but nostalgia-drenched confines of The Vet. If only Richie Ashburn were still around to wish me a Butterscotch Krimpet.

I've been struggling with lack of baseball television coverage too...The Indians and Red Sox may end up tied after today!

They used to put the pennant races ahead of run-of-the-mill NFL action, which these days includes 90% of the increasingly boring games.

I am so frustrated with it. I keep watching the games--"watching"--on ESPN gamecast. Yesterday was downright thrilling for college football, wasn't it?

It was a great day. So many interesting games. I always like to see Florida lose, even though I can't like any SEC teams aside, perhaps, from longtime losers like Kentucky. USC didn't look too good. Cal looked good in the second half, but still hasn't played a complete game. Still, I'll take a number three ranking, however short-lived.

Yeah, I feel the same about OSU's #4. It's good, but I'm not sure if they deserve it yet.

Right. I mean, Cal has done more to earn its rankings than most teams. But they aren't used to being ranked that high. It could lead to trouble.

We are the champions!

The Phillies win the East! The Phillies win the East! I haven't been this happy about baseball since the days of Lenny Dykstra!

I almost threw my Macbook out the window yesterday, when, because Fox has the Saturday monopoly, it was impossible to watch the Phils game, even on the baseball package or mlb.tv. But today I switched between the Phils and Mets all morning on my laptop. It was glorious!

If the Birds beat the Giants tonight, this may be the single greatest sporting day of my life.

Oh, and I also miss the Vet. Especially the $2 game-day seats and the fan groups in left field: the defunct Wolf Pack and Padilla Flotilla, Burrell's Girls, Myers' Friars, etc.

I wish you hadn't linked to that Tastykake page. Now I'm tempted to order a case.

Hey, maybe we can split an order! 18 is a bit much. But I could eat 9!

Re: We are the champions!

So much fun. I guess Ryan Howard stepped it up the last month of the season, despite all the strikeouts.

There's no telling who will win the NL pennant. Might as well be the team you can't name.
