Further Frustrations
It's one thing to have Monday Night Football displace October baseball. It's another entirely to find, as I did last night, that the one-game playoff between the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies was not on, at least in my market, because of televised billiards. Imagine my agony as I followed the excitement on my computer, only to realize that no one was going to cut away to show the conclusion. I don't care particularly for either team, but when a game of that importance is so thrilling, it must be watched. What's next? Playoff games pre-empted for poker? I shudder to think.

It wasn't on TBS for you? Apparently, Ted Turner wrestled half of the postseason away from Rupert Murdoch, so it was on cable last night. You missed one weird ending. Did he miss the plate? I think so.

Shoot. I checked the listings three times. And I went through the stations. Maybe I just missed it.

Good God! Billiards? I am so sorry. I have endured more than my share of computer-watched games. And the magic just isn't there as you eagerly wait for the refresh.

As you know, it was quite a game. C and I replayed the final run many times on frame-by-frame to see if he really touched the plate. And since I was cheering for Colorado, I decided he did. What a comeback. I love games like that.

I missed the ending because I was driving around Hunter's Point, lost, looking for the one post office in SF with a pickup after 5:00. Those literary contest deadlines nearly got me killed!

The first two Phils games are on TBS, also. Just FYI.
