For some reason when this first loaded into my Friends page, it did not come through fully. The top part of the letter was the clearest, and it got blurrier as the letter progressed, until the bottom section which was simply squares of gray where the letters should have been. I thought you had purposefully manipulated it as such, and was almost disappointed to click through (in order to leave a comment about how beautiful the disintegrating letter was) and have it be so clear.

Alas, that would have been very cool. Maybe next time. Of course, I only have one letter of this sort on hand at the moment. . .

in other news, you realise that when i see your name written out as charlie i have an instant image of my friend charlie?

and have to think things like - what would charlie have written in this instance?
i can only imagine that he would have edited it down to just the bit about the indian food.

::smiling::

Hell, if I had to do it over, I might have edited it down to the bit about Indian food!

If someone wrote me an "I'm sorry you don't love me, anymore" letter and used a New Order reference in a decent fashion, I might have fallen back in love with that someone.

Huh. I guess I'm not that complicated.

Sadly, though, this person was not a New Order fan. I picked the wrong group. Or, rather, I was too self-absorbed to not pick the group with which I felt best able to sustain and reinforce my melancholy.

Forgive me

for The Holly Comeback: If you don't get New Order, then you don't get me.

But, aside from my snarky comment, thanks for sharing such an intimate piece with us. I found it uplifting even though the original intent might not have been meant to be of that sort. Maybe because that's a letter I wish I could have written myself, but never bothered to compose. Or maybe because the feelings you conveyed were so palpable.

Re: Forgive me

I'm going through some pretty intense "processing" right now, the sort that powerfully reinforces my already ample archival urges. I suspect I will posting a number of things over the next few months that reveal more than I normally reveal. Knowing someone might actually read and perhaps even benefit from my self-exposure is very nice, then. The funniest aspect of this particular letter is that I can't remember whether I actually gave it to my ex. I obviously printed at least one out for archival purposes, which I already felt the need to comply with back then. Whether I had the guts to give the letter to someone else is another matter.
