I Heard the Owl Call My Name

There was an owl hooting away out front last night. It was so loud I could hear it inside the house with the door closed. Once I went outside and thought I could make out its silhouette on the roof of the house across the street. I was reminded of the time, shortly after we moved into our house, when owls made heavy use of the unfinished buildings in our subdivision. I like owls, though they are almost as bad for cats as coyotes. Still, that book I read in seventh grade surfaces in the back of my mind, not to mention Twin Peaks, making me wonder whether there's a reason I've become the audience for owls.
