Seeing as rice is patently material, I can't continue my argument allegorically here, but if one considers Charlie's use of the objects of rice/tofu as personifications (namely of me) here, I can only argue that to judge a human being by how they LOOK evinces a materialistic and objectifying outlook that's redolent of those who perpetrate acts of ethnic cleansing, etc.

Not to say that I'm not guilty of this "crime," but I do reflect critically on this reifying tendency and I regret it; I also try to control it, but the fact that I was raised in such a thoroughly materialistic culture (the U.S.A.) makes the tendency difficult to resist; however, no matter how disparaging my judgements of people (and my tendency to "pigeonhole"/divide and analyze them with respect to these ultimately faulty categories) get, they are (if published in my livejournal, at least) usually the product of my impetuosity....i'm a very emotional/reactionary person, but only in the short term.

PS: In the even that this response makes utterly no sense, then....sorry

Sometimes rice is simply rice. Sometimes it's more, I suppose.

Next time you feel the need to make the leap from an object (food, no less) to ethnic cleansing, I urge you to avoid using anything I may have written as your springboard.

I can vaguely see your train of thought, or at least I want to try to see it, and in doing so I remember why I decided to end my college career with my BA.

Sometimes rice is rice, and sometimes it's tofu. I was just curious as to how it looked, as tofu.

I suppose I prefer my rice homogenous.

I though the OBJECT was a SYMBOL (a highly personal one, at that: me), so it was more like a leap from a personal indictment/argument against my presence to ethnic cleansing.

I can vaguely see your train of thought, or at least I want to try to see it, and in doing so I remember why I decided to end my college career with my BA.

It's odd, because this is doing nothing but augmenting my resolve to stay in academia, if only to piss everyone off (which I'm evidently capable of doing without even trying at times).

PS: not to say that this "reading" is the right one, but that's how I read it, and in light of this penchant of mine to read anything I even suspect is allegory personally, perhaps people will be able to understand the highly PASSIONATE manner in which I react. REact being the key term here, I guess.
