Rolling Again
I rode fourteen miles on a bicycle today, half of them uphill and half of them at top speed. It was the hottest day of they year so far. And the winds were so fierce that they gave my cheeks the appearance of sunburn. But I'm so happy to be riding again that I don't mind.

excercise is good!

Woot! i hope to be able to do this too at some point again. I never was one for the 14 mile thing, but five again would be nice since I have only a beach cruiser bike. XD

Re: excercise is good!

14 is a bit much on a hot day, out in the sun. At least on the roads I was riding, which are very bumpy. Still, it was fun. And healthy!

Do you adorn yourself in fancy bike gear, high-tech padded shorts, and fabric that wicks sweat away from the body? I suppose that I'll still be your friend, even if the answer is yes.
: )

Oh, goodness no. I wear what I'm wearing anyway, provided it's not too hot (or cold_. That means a T-shirt, generally, and my basketball shorts.

Thank god.

I'm shocked that you could even picture me in that biking attire!
e_compass_rosa From: e_compass_rosa Date: April 28th, 2008 02:29 am (UTC) (LINK TO SPECIFIC ENTRY)
No, I couldn't really, but had to check just to make sure.

It tickles me that you had to check. Believe me, if I wore that sort of thing I'd be asking for institutionalization.

Ah, but you see I happen to live with someone that dons several hundred dollars worth of spandex glory every time he gets on a bike.

Perhaps that'll explain something about certain fundamental incompatibilities.

Oh, right. I have friends who swear by that stuff. I think if you ride far it helps a good deal. But I'd rather be punk than primped.

I think padded bicycle pants are the silliest articles of clothing in existence. How can anyone possibly wear them and not feel ridiculous?
cbertsch From: cbertsch Date: April 29th, 2008 11:38 am (UTC) (LINK TO SPECIFIC ENTRY)
True. But they do serve a useful function, as the pain in my inner thighs is now reminding me.

so I assume the top-speed half was coming back downhill? *duck*

If only. I had to ride back home from Foothills Mall to get Skylar's glasses, then make it back in time for the movie.

wow, you go, Bertsch! legs of steel!

My tendons and ligaments are still feeling the exertion two days later, however. The biggest change in my body, as I approach forty, is the delay in recovery time.

The wind today was nuts! I gotta put air in my tires, but I've been biking more again lately. Not as far as I used to, though, more out of being busy and only needing to go shorter distances than anything else. After my next visitor leaves (she arrives Thursday), I think I'll take a good long ride the following Saturday.

We could meet!

Yeah! We definitely should.

Cool. I look forward to that.

The thing most notable about this entry, for me, will have no meaning for you. But you are the second person in a row to declare, in the very first sentence of an entry, that you rode fourteen miles on a bicycle today. I feel like the universe is trying to tell me to retrieve my bicycle from my parents' place and start riding it, or something.

Eerie! These days, with diesel and gas prices what they are, riding seems like a burst of sanity.

I usually rode around five, when I was riding regularly. The important thing is to do it at all.
