That's a beautiful sight.

And not long for this world, I imagine. Even with the collapse of the state economy, development of the most regressive sort proceeds. Sad, even if the legacy of cotton growing is itself suffused with pain.

It looks like the cotton is floating away in the sky.

Yes. The fields are something to behold:

I can see why you used the "politics" tab. That image, while beautiful, seems also to be pretty loaded.

Compositionally, I'm really digging compression of all the "human elements" into that one strip in the upper center of the photo; and how each of them has their own rhythm, while the rest of the image is more free-flowing and organic.

Thanks for the compliment. This is one photo that looks a lot better a little bigger than 640 by 480, which is the format of all my horizontal photos that I show on LJ.

I like coming up with subject headers and tags that complicate perception of my words or images. In this case, I was thinking of a whole lot of things, from the slave economy to unchecked development in southern Maricopa and Pinal County.

I forgot the cotton connection to slave economy, but was definitely thinking about unchecked development in Arizona and American expansionism, Manifest Destiny, what have you. It was your tags that helped me out, more than the title. I might have gotten to that point with the photo eventually, but the tags were a conduit that took me there directly.

And here, I click on your photo, thinking that I'll get to view it larger, and instead get a link to Wikipedia on bluing, which provides at the end some perplexing commentary about the use of solid bluing by "hoodoo doctors" to get "mojo hands." Ha ha.

I loved that part about the mojo hands! Wikipedia can be delightful.
