Man, that was a great race. Lina and I were both jumping up and down during the end. And Lina seemed very proud, which is unusual because she's never been pro-USA, as you know. She does get her citizenship later this month, so that should be factored in.

I've always loved the Star Spangled Banner; it's a very stirring song and the ending is quite a crescendo. I think the knee-jerk reaction against the song is silly and doesn't understand what the song is about. And the Marvin Gaye version rocks.

I've been watching a lot of the Olympics, even though I hadn't planned on it, either.

I was jumping up and down too! I had watched the preliminary heat earlier, with Cullen Jones, and seen the feature on him, so that made it more interesting too. I love the fact that Leszak drafted off the Frenchman, like in a stock car race. As one of the French guys said afterwards, "Experience over talent." God, I really can't deal with the French.

That's a good commercial with the Marvin Gaye. Hell, I'm even rooting for Lebron James! It feels good to be an underdog, even if we got there the worst possible way.

Did you see the Bob Costas interview with the President? I loved it. I've always been certain that Bush is more aware than he seems to be. He's not good at his job. He is terrible at subtlety. But he isn't an idiot. He is responsible, in other words.

The first time I watched the interview, I thought my thesis was confirmed. The second time, Bush seemed much more hapless. Either way, though, it was great to see him getting asked serious questions over an extended period with no teleprompter or "fake" reports to use as escape hatches.
