Does Collecting Make You Feel Dirty?
Blip, Blip
I'm trying out Blip, on the recommendation of several friends, as a way to diversify what I do with music on the internet. I'm not going to automatically import here, since it doesn't work well. But my "blips" are going to be over on my Twitter account as well as Blip itself. Here's what I wrote about the "Baltimore Club Remix" of Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up" by DJ Ayres:
The original ranks as one of my all-time favorite songs, moving me on up out of the doldrums of even the worst of days.
I'm feeling very nostalgic for Baltimore. It must be time to watch that final season of The Wire, which I need to be in a particular mood for, though I think it's superlative.

The first time I heard it - on the radio, 1970/1971, they played parts one and two in sucession - I couldn't believe how the energy just kept on coming. Curtis was a major influence on Hendrix. Outstanding !

I adore it. The parts go so well together. He's a hell of a guitarist, too. I'm going to have to stop importing into LJ, since it doesn't work right. But I'm over on Twitter and at Blip, too, as of today.

I've loved Curtis Mayfield from the first time I heard him as a high-school freshman. No idea why, since his subject-matter was as far removed from my experience as anything could be. I think it was the combination of his distinctive voice with those lush arrangements. It was like watching a very vivid three-minute movie - live-action, but with animations here and there by Ralph Bakshi.

Sorry you're having a bad day. I can relate.

Every day is a bad day, lately. Or so it seems. Today has been better than yesterday, at least.
