The Agony Without the Ecstasy

The mesquite pollen outside is so thick on the ground that it looks like we've just experienced chartreuse snow flurries. I love having trees, especially in a place where each one feels like a small victory in the struggle against oblivion. But I am in torment. Over the past twenty-four hours I have taken four different antihistamines, three kinds of decongestant and a variety of teas. I can't remember what I'm doing, I'm so pumped full of artifice. In fact, I almost forgot I was writing this entry.
