Does Collecting Make You Feel Dirty?
Sizing Up the Scene
Skylar and I had a photography adventure of our own yesterday, albeit one closer to home. But the Romero Canyon trail is so beautiful that I'd gladly have driven hours for the chance to hike it.

Putting your daughter in alumni T-shirts I see. Are you going to encourage her to go to Berkeley? You might have to move to California during her junior year so she doesn't have to pay ridiculous out-of-state fees. ;)

That's my old shirt, actually. I'm glad she wears it. I haven't pushed the alma mater too much, aside from encouraging her to hum the fight song every now and then. And with the way the California budget has gutted the UCs, I'm not sure I'd want her to go there. But that is, in fact, where she said she wants to go over dinner last night. Such a quandry!

Perhaps your quandary will be moot by the time she's 17 years old, the budget restored by a spate of awesome governors. I hope! Every time I go back to visit my parents and read the local papers and hear from friends about what's happening to the public universities there, I am just HORRIFIED. And as an alumni it makes me really sad, to boot.

Me too. I don't have much hope that UC will be restored to even a fraction of its former glory. Then again, it's still better than U of A or ASU!

That's depressing to hear. I probably haven't been following it as closely as you have. Still, I am hopeful that they can continue to attract good professors and researchers after their budget is restored, if only because California has such nice weather! Cambridge, Massachusetts can never compete with that.
