Thank you. I'll dispense with false modesty to confess that I feel the same way. The view is so amazing. But that overlay of competing blues at the last moment, practically, before the descent of full night is really hard to capture. I'd tried on numerous occasions previously, without much success. This time, I had a better camera, the tripod Kim got me for Christmas, and the benefit of that planet glowing in the sky, which somehow makes the composition work much better than it otherwise would.

When I first saw it, I thought, 'French Symbolists'. I'm too scattered to say exactly why right now, but the planet cinched it for me.

I'm a huge fan of shots that show a field -- or fields -- of something that appears mostly the same on first glance but reveals a more variegated reality on closer inspection. But they typically work a lot better when they have a little something sharp and specific to anchor the eye. I have another photo from this trip, less impressive than this one, but which also illustrates this principle well. I'll try to remember to post it with commentary.
